Azerbaijan to take part in Global Forum of UN Alliance of Civilizations

The delegation headed by the Minister of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan Abulfas Garayev headed to Vienna to participate in the fifth Global Forum of the UN Alliance of Civilizations, entitled “Responsible Leadership in Diversity and Dialogue”, which will be held on February 27-28, the Ministry told Trend on Tuesday.
The delegation includes the Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Associations Elshad Iskandarov, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Intigam Babayev, heads of departments of the Foreign Ministry Emil Hasanov and Vasif Eyvazzade.
The forum will be attended by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and other heads of the structure, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of Austria Heinz Fischer, Spain’s Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia and other heads of state and international organizations.
The head of the Azerbaijani delegation Abulfas Garayev is expected to deliver a speech during the ministerial meeting, to be held within the forum. Meeting with a number of government officials and international organizations are also planned.
The meeting will discuss the international projects undertaken by Azerbaijan along with the UN Alliance of Civilizations, UNESCO and other organizations in the field of intercultural dialogue.
Within the visit, the sides will also exchange views on the activities and projects of international importance, which will be organized by the UN Alliance of Civilizations on May 29-June 1 as the official partner of the Second World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue in Baku.
Cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNESCO and details of the regular session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, which will be held on December 2-8 in Baku, will be discussed at a meeting with Director General of UNESCO Irina Bokova.
