Azerbaijani Press Council chairman will organize meeting of the media outlets with the press services of the law enforcement and governmental agencies. “The meeting will focus on relations between the media and official agencies and obtaining information from the initial source,” Press Council Chairman Aflatun Amashov told Trend News.
Azerbaijani Press Council has made a report on coverage of a tragic event in the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy. The report says the media articles included much inaccurate information about the tragedy.
Over 3,300 media outlets are registered in Azerbaijan. Only 600 of them are operating currently. There are nearly 400 newspaper and magazines and 20 television channels. There are about 50 electronic media outlets and 20 news agencies. The remaining are internet resources.
Amashov said there is a need to organize the meeting specifically after a tragic event in the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy. “We want heads of all leading media outlets and heads of the press services of the law enforcement agencies to participate at the meeting. After the tragic event it was revealed that some media outlets publish information without obtaining it from initial source. There is a need to discuss some issues,” he added.
A gunman attacked the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy on April 30. The gunman entered the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy in Baku and climbed five floors of the building, shooting everyone he met along the way and killed 12, wounded 13 with Makarov pistol.
