Azerbaijan is changing the rules on detention of a person by police and its term.
Azerbaijani Parliament told APA that according to the amendment proposed to article #14 of the law “On police”, police are deprived of power to detain a person until handing him/her over to the relevant body.
According to the draft law, clause on the “detention of a person until handing him/her over to the relevant body” is being removed from the competences of the police in protection of public order and ensuring public security.
The annex envisages that police can keep a detainee or prisoner in jail in relevant cases and terms determined by the Criminal-Procedure Code and law “On ensuring rights and freedoms of detainees”.
The draft law will be discussed at the session of Azerbaijani Parliament on December 27.
