Today during the meeting of OSCE PA Standing Committee in Baku, President of OSCE PA, Speaker of the Parliament of Montenegro Ranko Krivokapić answered the parliamentarians’ questions.

Answering questions on migrants, Krivokapić said ten thousands of migrants are coming to Italy, APA reports. He added that OSCE PA must offer Italy full support over this issue as well.

Answering questions on cooperation with the European Parliament, CoE, NATO PA, Krivokapić said they have cooperated with CoE and the European Parliament during election observation missions: “We and these authorities have so far adopted a number of same resolutions. Administration-level meetings are underway. We raised an issue on the role of mass media outlets in modern societies at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The Secretary General of the Council of Europe gave his consent to it. A new media power has emerged, they sometimes use this power without responsibility. We will be trying to find answers to these questions, holding a conference”.

Krivokapić noted that enforcement of resolutions is also playing a crucial role in OSCE PA’s activities.

Head of the Azerbaijani delegation to OSCE PA Bahar Muradova said a number of vital works have been done during Krivokapić’s one-year leadership on normalizing relations among OSCE institutions and increasing the organization’s activity in the region: “We very well know Special Representative on the South Caucasus João Soares. He is well aware of problems in the South Caucasus. OSCE and the Minsk Group, although having no effect, seem active. But OSCE PA is quite inactive. Are you thinking of giving your Special Representative João Soares an authority to work adequately? We’ll be discussing a resolution on Ukraine. Do you think we need to expand powers of the special representative in this situation?”

Krivokapić said they are seeking to increase the role of OSCE PA: “The focus on the special representative’s has increased. João Soares is active. We will raise this issue in the Geneva conference once again. We are trying to find extra-budgetary funds for the activity of João Soares. We are trying to play a more active role like in Ukraine. João Soares can’t do this on his own. We need to give him our support. It’s very important. We will be using a range of experiences in this sphere. We highly appreciate João Soares’ efforts in the region”.
