The Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan has issued a warning to Azerbaijan nationals with respect to the situation in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan. The statement says terrorism and clashes between religious groups have escalated in Pakistan. Many attacks and assassinations against officials and foreigners have been staged there. This country has seen a rise in cases of kidnapping and hostage taking of foreigners by terrorist groupings.

With respect to Afghanistan, the statement says this country is extremely dangerous for citizens of foreign countries. Hotels, government buildings and facilities of international institutions are the potential target for assaults. None of them is secured against a threat of attacks.

Afghan capital of Kabul experienced attacks against the airport and foreign pilots. The roads around the airport are dangerous as well. The overland travel to the areas surrounding Kabul is especially dangerous. Travels to such areas were banned by the Afghan government. Mines were planted in quite a few areas of this country. Therefore, no area is considered secure.

Even though the general security situation in Tajikistan is stable, travels to the areas bordering Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan are very dangerous. While Dushanbe is secure, the areas bordering Afghanistan frequently become a place of clashes between drugs traffickers and border patrol

The Ministry strongly advise Azerbaijan nationals to contact Azerbaijan embassies and consulates while in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan.
