Armenian armed forces violate ceasefire with Azerbaijan 46 times in a day

Over the past 24 hours, the Armenian armed forces violated ceasefire with Azerbaijan 46 times on various parts of the contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian troops, the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan said Nov. 15.

 

Armenian soldiers, stationed in the village of Aygepar in the Berd district of Armenia opened fire at the Azerbaijani armed forces’ positions in the village of Alibayli of the Tovuz district.

 

Armenians also opened fire from positions near the villages of Chayli, Chilyaburt of the Tartar district, Yusifjanli, Sarijali, Shikhlar of the Aghdam district, Qarakhanbayli, Qorqan, Horadiz, Ashagi Seyidahmadli, Ashagi Veyselli of the Fizuli district, Kuropatkino of the Khojavand district, Mehdili of the Jabrayil district.

 

The Azerbaijani positions were also fired at from the nameless heights in the Goygol, Goranboy, Khojavand, Fizuli and Jabrail districts.

 

The opposing side was silenced with return fire.

 

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

 

As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

 

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

 

Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
