Closing ceremony of “Baku-2015” the first European Games held at the Olympic Stadium

The closing ceremony of the “Baku-2015” first European Games ended.

 

The closing ceremony of the Games began at 21:00 at the Olympic Stadium in Baku.

 

Sounds of sheypur (trumpet) greeted Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan’s First Lady, Chairwoman of the Organizing Committee of the first European Games Mehriban Aliyeva and President of the European Games Committees Patrick Hickey.

On the stadium screens, a carpet weaver’s threads come to life and journey through the countryside, across the ancient landscape to the city of Baku. During the countdown, choir sang the national anthem in a new symphonic arrangement and the flag of Azerbaijan was raised.

 

 

The part of the show, called “Transformation”, embodied energy and power of the rich traditions of Azerbaijani music, dance and architecture. The episode was characterized by a performance of more than 500 dancers and amazing stage effects.

 

Then began the parade of athletes, the chorus of 50 children sang folk song “Chal-oyna”, and then athletes of 50 countries-participants went up to the stage.

 

Further, at the closing ceremony, Mehriban Aliyeva and Patrick Hickey had speeches. Then, more than 500 dancers and acrobats showed spectacular air show.

 

On the screens of the stadium were shown the highlights of the 17 days of competition. Under the light of the Cauldron, Elnur Mikailov played the kamanche – a haunting and yearning sound embodying Azerbaijani mugham music. the Ateshgah fire temple rise from the Main stage. Standing on top, a sand painter drew ‘the tree of life’ from the simurg legend. Soon it was discovered that what she drew magically came to life on stage.

 

Extinguishing the flame of the European game was the culmination of 17 days of the Games. Flames gradually faded, and grandiose fireworks started.

 

The world-famous musicians – a group of “Clean Bandit” performed the singles “Real Love”, “Stronger”, and the international anthem “Rather be”, as well as the popular singer John Newman performed the hit “Blame”, ” Gold Dust “and” Love Me Again “.

 

As spectacular fireworks shoot across the Baku sky, the first-ever European Games come to a close.
