We knew that Armenians were holding military exercising behind the hills in the front. We had learned their flight direction. So we were constantly controlling that direction.
Sergeant Ilkin Muradov who had shot down an Armenian Mi-24 military helicopter while attacking on positions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces on November 12 said in his interview to the newspaper “The Azerbaijani Army”, an official agency of the Defense Ministry, APA reports.
Muradov said one helicopter of the enemy was seen three days before the incident. The helicopter flied from the slope of a mountain in the front to the Armenians’ training camp and then flied back. On November 12, the helicopter headed toward the trenches of the Azerbaijani army.
“I was standing ready in my position. First we heard the sound of the enemy helicopters afar. Then we observed the point-size spots of the targets with binoculars and saw the two Mi-24 helicopters were flying right toward us. We informed the military unit about this right away. And we were ordered to destroy the targets in case they enter the defense area of our military unit and violate the airspace. The helicopters rapidly approached our trenches and fired on our positions. So our fighters on the front line fired at the helicopters with rifles and machine guns and they flied leftward. At the moment, I took sight the helicopter flying behind and opened fire”, said Muradov.
Note that, three officers of the Armenian Armed Forces were killed in the helicopter which was downed while attacking on positions of the Azerbaijani army on November 12.
