As earlier reported, the 7th meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of Organization for Democracy and Economic Development (GUAM) has kicked off in Chisinau, Moldova. The 2-day meeting is attended by MPs from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, the Baltic countries, Poland and representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization of Black Sea Economic Cooperation, Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-speaking countries and Visegrad Group. In the first day, the head of delegation of Millie Majlis of the Azerbaijan Republic to GUAM PA Elton Mammadov made report. The Azerbaijani parliamentarian highlighted that settlement of the conflicts on GUAM space has to be carried out only on the basis of respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of the internationally recognized borders of the UN member states. Fair settlement of the conflicts on GUAM space can open new prospects also for development of interstate cooperation, Mammadov emphasized. The parliamentary delegation of Azerbaijan carried out effective work in the first day of meeting, taking active part in discussions, held meetings with their colleagues on GUAM and foreign parliamentarians. They presented to the interlocutors the position of official Baku on fair settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. During the discussion of the problem of local conflicts, the Polish Sejm Vice President Elzbieta Radziszewska noted that “we support territorial integrity of all member countries of the East Neighbourhood Program”. The Vice President of Baltic Assembly, the head of the Lithuanian parliamentary delegation Giedrè Purvaneckienè, in turn, stated the necessity of the resolution on the conflicts in GUAM space on international agenda. In turn, GUAM Secretary General Valery Chechelashvili sated that now “we are witnesses of the changes happening in the world that were started by someone, whose plans we don’t know yet”. “By means of our solidarity and cooperation, I think, we will promote improvement of this situation”, the Secretary General of the organization underlined. Today the meeting participants are expected to adopt a Statement and the Joint Declaration.
