Today, Kazakhstan and Afghanistan announced their intention on participation in Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project, said the Transport Minister Ziya Mammdov.
According to him, Azerbaijan repeatedly stated that this project is open for other countries.
Construction of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway has started after signing of Intergovernmental Agreement on “Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway” on February 7, 2007 in Tbilisi. Construction of 75.6 km in Turkey, 183 km in Georgia and 4.5 km in Turkish-Georgian border are underway.
347 km railway in the direction of Baku-Georgian border was reconstructed, new Poylu Bridge was constructed over Kur River and the works on full renewing of energy and communication system, purchase of new locomotives and wagons, establishment of central dispatcher management system are underway. The works in Georgia are financed by $775-preferential loan allocated by Azerbaijani government.
First testing train will be launched at the end of 2014. The project will fully be completed in 2015.
