The deputies of Azerbaijani parliament discuss a bill, which is dealing with foretelling sex of babies to be born to parents by doctors. This is connected with grave demographic problems. Recently, the number of newly born boys is much more than the number of newly born girls.

16 boys and 6 girls: starting from the first degree until the sixth one – in the late 12 years only one out of newly born three children in the country is a girl.

This kind of situation causes a danger of demographic crisis. Therefore, it has concerned the authority of the country. The deputies have prepared a bill “About reproductive health and family health” in order to solve the problem of optional abortion. The document has been debated two times in the parliament but after long intensive discussions, they have come back to work on the document.

The bill prohibits doctors to foretell parents about the sex of babies to be born in the first 3 months of pregnancy.

The normal correlation of sex of newly born babies contemplates 100 girls for 105 boys. Boys comprise sixty per cent of newly born children in Azerbaijan. If the bill is adopted in this session, the document will be in effect from the next year on. The authors of the bill consider that, this will conclude in the abortion decrease in number and most probably, the number of born children will be equalized according to the degrees.
