The Chairman of the Azerbaijani Parliamentary Committee supports an amendment to the “Immigration” Law. “Recently, the flow of immigration to Azerbaijan has increased. The number of visitors from China, Afghanistan and Pakistan has increased,” the Chairman of the Azerbaijani Parliamentary Human Rights Committee, Rabiyat Aslanov, said on the ruling New Azerbaijan Party’s official website.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev issued a decree to apply the “single window” principle to the immigration management in early 2009. According to official information, the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry registered over 54,000 immigrants. The majority of the immigrants are from Georgia, Central Asia, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, China, Nigeria and other countries.
Aslanova currently believes the main duty of the state is to establish the status of immigrants. “Azerbaijan’s socio-economic development has drawn the world’s attention. The increase in immigration is connected to this fact,” said the committee chairman.
The majority of immigrants in the country are workers. “Of course, this matter is regulated in accordance with the law and the increase in the flow of immigration necessitates an amendment to the relevant legislation,” said Aslanova.
