South Ossetian separatists acknowledged that they fired on the motorcade of Georgian and Polish presidents on November 23 to stop it. Spokeswoman of separatists Irina Gagloyeva told Russian newspaper “Kommersant” that Mikhail Saakashvili and Lech Kaczynski approached the checkpoint on border and their security said that they intended to visit Akhalgori (South Ossetia). “They were strongly disallowed and guards made warning shot to air when one of the cars moved toward the checkpoint”.
So far Russian leadership and separatists denied information about shooting by them. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the incident as a provocation by the Georgian side and separatist leader Edward Kokoyti denied any shooting at all.
