The 3rd Assembly of the International Anti-Corruption Academy has today kicked off in Baku.
APA reports that the event which is due to last till November 21will be attended by more than 130 representatives from 43 countries as well as influential international organizations like the Council of Europe, the European Union, the Group of States against Corruption (GRECO), the European Commission, leaders of the European Anti-Fraud Office, leaders of independent anti-corruption institutions, and ministers of justice and interior affairs.
In his opening speech at the event, Martin Kreutner, Executive Secretary of the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA), stressed that the academy is undergoing rapid development and already encompasses two-thirds of the world’s population. He said Azerbaijan has been very active in the affairs of the IACA since it joined the academy, adding that it’s commendable for Azerbaijan to host this event. M.Kreutner said the event is going to give a great impetus to the shaping of the academy as an organization.
Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov noted that it’s a significant event for legal community that Azerbaijan is hosting the event organized by the International Anti-Corruption Academy. He said for the period Azerbaijan chaired the Committee of Minister of the Council of Europe, making effective cooperation in the fight against corruption a priority alongside other issues is an outcome of Head of State Ilham Aliyev’s strong political will.
Attaching high importance to the activity of the International Anti-Corruption Academy, like all other international organizations, Azerbaijan has built tight relations with the organization and decently fulfilled its commitments, the prosecutor general added.
Later on, the report of the department of credentials in the presence of observers was adopted after hearing.
