On January 5-6, 1994, 21 settlements and Horadiz village of Fizuli region were liberated thanks to a successful operation of the Azerbaijani armed forces.
An event marking the occasion was held at the Flag Square in the city of Horadiz.
Speakers at the event highlighted the problems of Azerbaijan in the first days of independence, Armenia`s war against the country, and occupation of the Nagorno-Karabakh region, including Fuzuli
They said that in January, 1994, the Armenian armed forces` attack on Beylagan was prevented thanks to “Horadiz operation”, and the Azerbaijani army launched a counter-attack to liberate 20 villages of Fuzuli region, Horadiz settlement and Jojug Marjanli village of Jabrayil region. The Azerbaijani army achieved this success thanks to national leader Heydar Aliyev, whose visit to the front raised soldiers` moral spirits.
The speakers noted that the infrastructure has been restored in these territories, and 16 residential areas for refugees have been built.
In the past 12 years, President Ilham Aliyev has paid five visits to Fuzuli region and signed six orders aimed at speeding up socio-economic development of the region.
