17 years has passed since the occupation of Shusha city of Azerbaijan by Armenian armed forces, APA reports. The enemy units occupied Shusha with 289 sq/km territory after several-day battles on May 8, 1992. As a result of the occupation of Shusha, 480 civilians were killed, 600 wounded and 25,000 were displaced. 552 children lost their parents and 150 people became disabled. 68 people were taken hostages by the Armenians.
The Armenians destroyed 279 religious, historical and cultural monuments, two health resorts, a tourist base, 7 preschool facilities, 22 high schools, cultural, agricultural and technical schools, 8 culture houses, 14 clubs, 20 libraries, 2 cinemas, 3 museums and the factory of Eastern musical instruments.
The Shusha State Drama Theater, the State Karabakh History and Shusha History museums, house-museums of Uzeyir Hajibeyov, Bulbul, Mir Mohsun Navvab, as well as the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum, the State Art Gallery, famous Govhar Agha Mosque and several other mosques are under occupation now.
