Turkey, Azerbaijan start discussions on navy yard and warship construction

Turkish Company STM has started discussions with Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan on the construction of navy yard and warships, STM Navy Projects Director, retired Rear-Admiral Savash Onur told APA.

 

Onur said that in order to support the construction of navy yard alongside the Caspian Sea, the STM and Kazakhstan Engineering National Company signed a protocol of intent in KADEX – 2014 exhibition held on May 23.

 

Azerbaijani Defense Ministry appealed to the Turkish Secretariat of Defense Industries in connection with the construction of navy yard and warships during the meeting of the High-Level Military Dialogue held late last year. We started works in this regard on the recommendation of the Secretariat. Once we had meetings in Baku. We plan to have one more meeting soon”, the company official said.

 

Onur said the STM was involved in several projects in the field of naval industry in Turkey and Pakistan. The official also stated that the STM is participating in the Turkish national corvette project “Milgem”, the modernization of Ay class submarines, as well as the project of Supply Ship of the Pakistani Navy.

 

The company is ready to share its experience with Azerbaijan in the naval industry.

 

“Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan are mainly interested in the corvette project “Milgem”. This corvette can be considered the most modern warship, at the same time it is suitable for navigation on the Caspian Sea”, Onur said.
