Investigation into 32 crimes committed by Armenians against Azerbaijanis concluded – deputy general prosecutor

As one of the countries affected by international terrorism, Azerbaijan joined the international coalition against terrorism and contributed its activities.

First Deputy General Prosecutor Rustam Usubov made the remarks on Wednesday during the presentation of book “The history of transnational Armenian terrorism in the twentieth century” by Oleg Kuznetsov.

According to the National Security Concept approved by President Ilham Aliyev on 23 May 2007, terrorist attacks against the population are regarded as a threat to national security, Usubov said.

“Azerbaijanis have repeatedly undergone the Armenian terrorism. They occupied Nagorno-Karabakh and adjacent districts, committed massacres against the civilians. The Khojaly tragedy was a culmination. Former President Robert Kocharian and current President Serzh Sargsyan bear full responsibility for these events. The Sumgayit events were committed under the leadership of Eduard Grigoryan. Numerous casualties occurred during those events. Armenians tried to arouse the hatred in the international society against Azerbaijanis. It seems clear that the Sumgayit events were planned beforehand. The investigation of these events is underway. We have filed new charges against Eduard Grigoryan, who has already been put on Interpol’s wanted list,” Usubov noted.

The deputy prosecutor general said the book is of great importance in terms of informing the world community about numerous terrorist attacks committed by Armenians, adding that as mentioned in the book, the Armenian terrorism is of transnational character since its emergence.

Usubov said he was personally involved in the investigation of crimes by Armenians in Azerbaijan.

“Buses and subways were the main targets of terror attacks. The Armenian terrorists placed explosives in a bus moving on Tbilisi-Agdam route. The bus was blown up near Shamkir, killing 20 and wounding 30 people. It was very difficult to solve that crime. A large investigation-operational group was created. However, we were able to solve the crime. We found the criminals who were Armenians from Ganja. They were brought from Minvodi and involved into investigation under articles on terrorism. One of them is still being searched. There are many similar events like this. The investigation into 32 crimes committed by Armenians in Azerbaijan has already been concluded,” he stressed.
