Residents of Kalbajar region have today visited the Alley of Martyrs on the occasion of the 21st anniversary of occupation of the region, APA reports.

Head of Kalbajar region executive authority Agil Mammadov told journalists that 511 civilians were killed, 25 000 received various injuries and became disabled, 165 were taken captive as a result of occupation of strategically important Kalbajar region being under blockade for 5 years. He said that 122 hostages were handed over to the country, but nothing is known about the fate of 43 people.

Agil Mammadov said that though the UN Security Council adopted resolution #822 on the occupation of Kalbajar region, Armenia still ignores this resolution and the international community tolerates it: “On the contrary, Armenia is pursuing a policy of settling the Armenians in the occupied territories, destroying our historical monuments and armenianizing some of them.”
