Georgian Parliament calls for diplomatic break off with Russia and describes Russian troops in the country as occupants

The Georgian Parliament approved a resolution calling on the government to break off diplomatic ties with Russia and to declare Russian troops, including peacekeepers in the country’s territory “illegal” and “occupying forces”. The request was made during an emergency session on August 28, APA quotes Georgian News.

The Government, said in the resolution should declare Abkhazia and South Ossetia under Russian occupation. The parliament urged the government to cancel all agreements which allowed Russian peacekeepers to stay in the country’s territory. According to the resolution Georgia remains devoted to the ceasefire agreement signed via mediation of European Union. The parliament urged the General Prosecution Office to investigate facts of ethnic cleansing against Georgians in the conflict zone.
