Azerbaijan, Iran discuss prospects of cooperation in addressing emergencies

Minister of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan Kamaladdin Heydarov met Sunday with Iranian Deputy Interior Minister and head of Iranian Disaster Management Organization Ismail Najjar, the Iranian Fars news agency reported.

At the meeting Kemaleddin Heydarov said that Azerbaijan is ready to cooperate with Iran in the prevention of emergency situations and elimination of waste.

According to him, the Azerbaijani side is ready to hold joint exercises on rescue operations in the Caspian Sea.

“In case of fire in Caspian sea or coastal forests, some areas can only be reached by helicopter,” – the minister said.

Minister of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan said that the absence of an agreement on cooperation between the two countries hinder joint addressing the emergencies.

“The signing of the cooperation agreement would play an important role in improving cooperation in disaster management,” – Heydarov said.

In turn, the Head of Iranian Disaster Management Organization Ismail Najjar said that Iran has rich experience in dealing with floods, earthquakes, landslides and other natural disasters, and that Iran is ready to share its experience with Azerbaijan.
