Baku welcomes and approves the EU’s preparation of the agreement on comprehensive cooperation with Azerbaijan and the issuance of a mandate for negotiations in this area, Hikmat Hajiyev, spokesman for Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry, told APA.
On November 14, the European Council adopted a mandate for the European Commission and the high representative for foreign affairs and security policy to negotiate, on behalf of the EU and its member states, a comprehensive agreement with Azerbaijan November 14, the message on the council’s website said.
Hajiyev reminded that Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov on 22 May 2015 met with Johannes Hahn, EU Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, during his participation in the 4th Riga summit on Eastern Partnership, presenting to him a draft agreement on Azerbaijan-EU strategic partnership and revealing Azerbaijan’s willingness to improve relations with the EU in this respect.
