The main goal of Armenia is to maintain the status quo in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and unfortunately, numerous statements of the heads of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries don’t affect the Armenian leadership, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said at the meeting of the country’s Security Council on April 2.
The head of state that the Russian, US and French presidents have repeatedly stated that the status quo is unacceptable, it should be changed, and the problem should be solved soon.
Changing the status quo will force the occupying Armenian forces to leave the Azerbaijani territories, according to President Aliyev.
However, the Armenian government opposes it [the changing of the status quo] and tries to turn it into a never-ending process and the negotiations to continue for 20 years from now on, he added.
The president recalled some proposals made by the Russian president, foreign minister and the Minsk Group co-chairs.
“Azerbaijan welcomes these proposals. During the meeting and in official statements, they expressed support to the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan,” he said. “The meetings showed that the US is very interested in the soonest resolution of the conflict. I know that the Armenian authorities were delivered appropriate messages. In other words, the leaders of the MG co-chairing countries are trying to solve the problem,” Aliyev said.
However, even before the Nuclear Security Summit ends, Armenia made such a dirty provocation, dealing a big blow to the peace process, and the Armenian authorities are trying advantage of this to accuse Azerbaijan, the president stressed. “Some media outlets and political analysts under the Armenian authorities’ patronage are lined up now to accuse Azerbaijan. Media outlets of some countries are disseminated biased information on the developments on the contact line of troops.”
President Aliyev reiterated that Azerbaijan responded to the provocation.
“We have simply responded to the provocation. In the case of repeated provocations against us, they will be punished again,” he said. “Secondly, we are fighting in our own lands. We didn’t occupy the Armenian land. If an Armenian soldier does not want to die, then he should leave Azerbaijani lands.”
The president once again stated that Armenia once again violated all norms of international law, ignoring the resolutions of the UN Security Council and decisions of other international organizations.
The Armenians brutally destroyed all the buildings, historical monuments, religious sites in the occupied Azerbaijani territories, he said. “The OSCEfact-finding mission visited the occupied territories twice and we have their reports. The Armenians destroyed all mosques, cemeteries, historical monuments, buildings, museums and looted all the valuables in the occupied territories. This is an unprecedented brutality,” President Aliyev underlined.
