Azerbaijan, San Marino mull possibilities of co-op in various spheres

The documents signed between Azerbaijan and San Marino on avoidance of double taxation with respect to taxes on income and on capital, as well as on exemption of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and service passports will have a positive impact on the development of their relations, Azerbaijani Minister of Economy and Industry Shahin Mustafayev said.

 

He made the remarks during the meeting with Secretary of State for Foreign and Political Affairs of San Marino Pasquale Valentini in Baku.

 

During the meeting, Mustafayev emphasized the development of political and economic relations between the two countries, Azerbaijani Ministry of Economy and Industry said.

 

The minister said that the draft agreement on mutual protection and promotion of investments between Azerbaijan and San Marino is under discussion.

 

Noting the importance of creating ties between the businessmen of the two countries, Mustafayev stressed the importance of the signed documents and mutual visits.

 

The minister also talked about the possibilities of cooperation between the two countries in the spheres of agriculture, industry, petrochemistry, tourism, ICT and alternative energy.

 

During the meeting, the minister informed the guest about Azerbaijan’s economy and pointed out that political and macroeconomic stability has been ensured in the country.

 

He said Azerbaijan is a reliable partner on the international arena, is the economic and cultural center of the region, initiator and one of the main participants of major transnational projects.

 

Shahin Mustafayev also talked about Azerbaijan’s fair position on Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He noted that Armenia’s occupation policy is the main obstacle to the regional development.

 

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

 

Pasquale Valentini, for his part, expressed gratitude for the hospitality and said that San Marino is interested in expanding the relations with developing Azerbaijan.

 

Valentini expressed his opinion on developing the relations between the two countries in the sphere of economy.

 

He informed about San Marino’s potential to invest in the spheres of tourism, ICT and infrastructure and talked about his country’s economy.
