Azerbaijan changes vehicle registration regulations for foreigners

According to a resolution of the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers, the “Regulations on state registration and registration of motor vehicles and their trailers in a proper manner” were amended in connection with the registration of vehicles of diplomatic missions and international organizations.

 

According to the changes, vehicles of foreigners and stateless people, permanently or temporarily residing in the territory of Azerbaijan, as well as the representative offices and branches of foreign legal entities are registered on the common grounds.

 

The third part of the provisions relating to the registration of vehicles belonging to the diplomatic missions, international organizations, having the status of a diplomatic mission and their diplomatic staff and family members of the staff, was greatly changed.

 

According to the changes, the diplomatic missions and consulates, international organizations, having the status of a diplomatic mission in Azerbaijan, as well as their diplomatic staff and family members of the staff, must apply to the registration authority to register their official and personal vehicles via the Azerbaijani foreign ministry.

 

A certificate of registration and the state vehicle registration plate (“D”) are issued to the official and personal vehicles of foreign diplomatic missions and consulates in Azerbaijan, international organizations having the status of a diplomatic mission and their diplomatic staff and family members of this staff.

 

The state vehicle registration plate (“T”) is issued to the administrative-technical and service staff of diplomatic and consular missions, international organizations having a status of a diplomatic mission and family members of this staff.

 

The state vehicle registration plate (“FK”) is issued to the vehicles of honorary consulates.

 

Moreover, subparagraph 2 of paragraph 9.2 about the issuance of the yellow state registration plate to the vehicles of foreigners, and foreign legal entities and joint ventures with a foreign share was excluded from the regulations.
