Baku has hosted a conference on “Lies and tragedies of the 100 years from the so-called Armenian genocide of 1915 till the Khojaly tragedy” organized by New Azerbaijan Party (YAP).

In his speech, Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations, deputy executive secretary of New Azerbaijan Party (YAP) Mubariz Gurbanli said that the true act of genocide was committed by Armenians against Azerbaijanis. He regretfully stressed that the Western circles uses the subject of the so-called genocide as a means of pressure on Turkey. “It’s better to focus on the genocide committed in Khojaly town of Karabakh rather than turning back to 100 years ago. Because we, the present generation, witness it”, he said.

Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Ismail Alper Coskun said that each year we witness smear campaigns against common Turkish history. “Today, the events of 1915 can be understood as anathema against Turkey. However, in fact, today Turkey proves to the world that such claims are nothing but lies. If we want to investigate and understand the events of 1915, we should go back to much earlier. We should be informed of the plans on the distribution of the Ottoman Empire at that time. When we look through the decision of European Parliament on the “genocide”, we see that Armenians are regarded as a tool to convert the history to policy”, said the Ambassador.

Deputy executive secretary of New Azerbaijan Party (YAP), Siyavush Novruzov said that Armenian lies should be brought up before the international organizations and proved: “Historical facts show that no genocide was committed against the Armenians. The real situation is that the European circles are now trying to recognize so-called “Armenian genocide”. At the same time, a number of European countries fear from the growing influence of Turkey in the region and use the Armenian issue. So, I think we should strengthen our work in the international arena.”
