UN secretary general to attend Alliance of Civilizations’ forum in Baku

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will attend the forum of UN Alliance of Civilizations to be held in Baku in 2016, said a message from Azerbaijani Ministry of Culture and Tourism on Jan.27.

 

Azerbaijani Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfas Garayev, who is on a visit to the US, met Ban Ki-moon.

 

During the meeting, the sides discussed the relations between Azerbaijan and UN, the prospects for cooperation with the organizations which are included in the system of UN, UNESCO, UN Alliance of Civilizations, World Tourism Organization and UN Development Program, according to the message.

 

Garayev briefed UN secretary general about Azerbaijan’s contribution to the initiatives on ensuring global peace and dialogue and invited him to attend the 3rd World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue to be held in Azerbaijan on May 18-19, 2015.

 

During the meeting, it was noted that Azerbaijan has historical traditions of coexistence with other cultures and religions and promotes these traditions at the international level.

 

Ban Ki-moon, for his part, said that Azerbaijan’s contribution to the global peace and cooperation as a non-permanent member of UN Security Council, as well as the chairmanship of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the Council’s meeting left a good impression on him.
