A center named after Heydar Aliyev is under construction is Israel’s Acre city, Shimon Lancry, mayor of the Acre city told reporters in Baku on Jan.27.
Lancry, who is the initiator of this project, said the center will bring together all natives of Azerbaijan living in this city.
He added that the center’s activity will be aimed at strengthening the Azerbaijani-Israeli relations.
The mayor said that $1.5 million has been allocated for the construction of the center.
Lancry added that the construction of the center’s first floor will be completed in June 2015 after which the center will start operating, while the construction of its second floor will continue.
“Natives of Azerbaijan account for 20 percent of Acre’s population,” said the mayor. “We are constructing this center to give them an opportunity to learn more about Azerbaijan’s history and culture.”
