Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov received a delegation headed by Herbet Salber, European Union’s Special Representative for the South Caucasus, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said on its website Jan. 14.
During the meeting the parties discussed the issues related to further promotion of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU, and the EU-Azerbaijan strategic partnership on energy.
The sides expressed satisfaction with the entry into force of the EU-Azerbaijan visa facilitation and the readmission agreements, and emphasized that these agreements contribute to enhancing contacts in science, education, culture, tourism and business spheres.
Herbert Salber stressed the role of Azerbaijan in energy security of Europe.
At the meeting views were also exchanged on the negotiation process towards the resolution of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict.
Minister Elmar Mammadyarov noted the deliberate provocative actions of Armenia to escalate the situation, and emphasized that for the resolution of the conflict, first and foremost, the armed forces of Armenia, must be withdrawn from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.
