“Our international relations expanded during the past year. The Countries which we actively cooperate get more and more day by day”, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has said at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers dedicated to the results of socioeconomic development in 2014 and objectives for 2015, APA reports
According to the President, Azerbaijan is pursuing a very successful foreign policy in both bilateral and multilateral formats: “Of course, last year we had very close bilaterally contacts with neighboring countries, organized numerous mutual visits at the level of Heads of State. Work has been done on the development of bilateral relations at the highest level with the countries of Europe and Asia. Azerbaijan is respected respect in the world, recognized as a reliable partner, and our international prestige is gradually increasing. Azerbaijan’s role in solving regional problems, issues of regional cooperation is indispensable. We are the author of many initiatives. These initiatives are not just intention. They turn into real projects. Implementation of these projects, of course, enhances our ability to bring our country and the political, economic dividends.”
According to the President, last year Azerbaijan successfully cooperated with international organizations: “Azerbaijan takes an active part in all international organizations, which we are members, defends his position and makes a valuable contribution to the success of these organizations. Last year we chaired the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. It was a period of very successful presidency. During this period, Azerbaijan has made a huge and valuable contribution to the development of democracy, protection of human rights, the approval of justice in Europe. In particular, the unique character of our country’s experience is associated with multiculturalism. I believe that if our experience has been widely analyzed in the world, it would be possible to prevent many negative facts.”
The Head of State noted that Azerbaijan will continue to actively corporate with all international organizations: “Azerbaijan promptly and fully performs its obligations to the member organizations. Of course we can not have any obligation to the organizations that we are not member. Naturally, we have no bilaterally obligation to any country, and we can not. This is the laws of international relations. If someone believes that can dictate to Azerbaijan or say something in the language of ultimatums, is mistaken. Our history, our recently pursued independent, bold policy shows it, and all countries should build only equitable relations in the bilateral format. These are the rules of international conduct. No country has exclusive rights, and can not have. All countries are equal, and the organization uniting all countries is the United Nations. The organization, which in 2011 elected Azerbaijan in its highest structure. With the support of 155 countries, Azerbaijan became a member of the UN Security Council. This fact is a great indicator that reflects the international prestige of Azerbaijan”.
Azerbaijani President emphasized that attempts to tarnish, slander Azerbaijan are futile: “They are totally inactive, it will never affect our policy. Any outside forces will not be able to say us in the language of ultimatums. All should know it. We defend our position in all official statements, as well as discussions of behind closed doors. We are far from double standards, and we believe that international relations should not be allowed double standards. These standards and work against those who try to apply them. Today we see it from the history and processes in the world. Interference in internal affairs, prompting someone to some business – it does not benefit anyone. This violates the stability, leading to bloody clashes in the country, and ultimately have a negative effect on the forces behind these bloody clashes. Today all the countries in the world are related to each others and events occurred in any place where something can get resonance and elsewhere. I want to reiterate that our position is fair; it is based on international law. We have successfully defended and will defend that position”.
