10 811 cases of law violations were recorded as a result of comprehensive measures, search operations and customs control carried out by customs authorities of Azerbaijan in 2014.
Press service of the SCC told APA that there were 424 criminal cases in which AZN 2 577 813 smuggling goods and other things were confiscated and 473 people (375 Azerbaijani citizens, 98 foreign citizens) were brought to justice.
As a result of decisive measures carried out by customs services to provide the implementation of “2013-2018 State Program for fight against illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors and drug abuse”, 158 cases of drug trafficking were detected in 2014.
Totally, 178,369 kg narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, including 35,926 kg opium, 27,037 kg marijuana, 38,454 kg cannabis,76,669 kg heroin, 56.9 grams of methadone, 221,4 grams of methamphetamine, 30 tablets of alprazolam, 1.4 grams of phenobarbital and some diazepam, clonazepam, chlordiazepoxide were withdrawn from circulation.
185 persons (159 men, 26 women) were brought to criminal responsibility over illegal drug trafficking.
The State Customs Committee revealed 10 387 administrative offences in 2014. 287 legal entities (including 144 foreign legal entities) and 10 089 individuals (including 6218 foreigners) were brought to justice in this regard. They were fined AZN 1 206 651 and goods worth of AZN 228 933 were confiscated.
