At its 24th plenary meeting, the National Council of the Republic of Slovenia (parliament) has discussed the issue of initiative to support a peaceful resolution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and passed a decision in accordance with article #98 of its procedural rules.
Under the decision, the National Council of the Republic of Slovenia urges to pay more attention to a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, supporting the initiatives of the international organizations to ensure peace and stability in the region, APA reports quoting AzerTAc.
The decision emphasizes the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resolution should be based on the international law, the principle of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, especially the resolutions #822, 853, 874, 884 adopted by the UN Security Council. These resolutions require immediate withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan and safe return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their lands.
The decision recalls that the co-chair countries of the OSCE Minsk Group – France, Russia and the United States – are mediating in the negotiations over a peaceful resolution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The European Union supports the work of the OSCE Minsk Group toward a peaceful and sustainable settlement of the conflict.
The National Council urges the government of Slovenia to support the initiative for supporting a peaceful resolution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
