“After the new government of Ukraine is formed and the Ukrainian co-chair of the Ukraine-Azerbaijan Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation appointed, a number of joint projects will be discussed with Baku”, Alexander Mishchenko, Ukraine’s ambassador to Azerbaijan, told APA.

“We’ve always had friendly relations with Azerbaijan. Mutual visits have been made within the joint commission and they will continue. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev paid a visit to Ukraine last year. This year, the Ukrainian president is expected to visit Azerbaijan. But the exact date isn’t known yet. In this regard, we need to negotiate with the Azerbaijani government. We intend to cooperate with Azerbaijan in many areas, and we believe Azerbaijan is also interested in this cooperation,” he said.

Recalling his meeting with Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Refugees and IDPs, Ali Hasanov, the ambassador said he was interested in Azerbaijan’s experience in resettlement of the displaced persons from Crimea and Donbass regions.

“Ali Hasanov said that he stands ready to receive and assist Ukrainian representatives in this matter”, he added.

The ambassador also said that a number of countries, including Azerbaijan were appealed regarding the so-called elections in eastern Ukraine. “We are waiting for the Azerbaijani government’s response to this issue. We believe that Azerbaijan will express its position regarding the issue”, he mentioned.

Mishchenko noted that they have yet not received an appeal on the issue of Azerbaijani citizens’ being taken hostage or missing in Ukraine’s conflict zone.

“We are ready to investigate whether Azerbaijani citizens are in danger or not in eastern Ukraine. In the east of the country there are some areas beyond our control, but we can investigate it. We will try to investigate the matter by sending an inquiry to Kiev, he added.
