EU to continue work with Azerbaijan on civil society development

The EU will continue its work with Azerbaijan in the field of civil society development, the head of the EU delegation to Azerbaijan Malena Mard told reporters Oct.22.

 

She said that the EU’s contacts with representatives of civil society and government structures of the country are permanent, and it is important for both the EU and Azerbaijan.

“The presence of civil society in any country is very important, and Azerbaijan is no exception,” Mard said.

 

The last order of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on pardon, which also covered the former members of the NIDA movement, is welcomed by the EU, the head of the delegation said.

 

“The EU looks forward to the continuation of such steps,” said Mard.

President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on pardon of 84 people Oct.17. Three former members of the NIDA movement – Shahin Novruzlu, Elsever Mursalli and Bakhtiyar Guliyev, head of the NGO Hasan Guseynli are also among those pardoned.
