Azerbaijan, Albania discuss interparliamentary cooperation prospects

Azerbaijan and Albania have explored ways of developing cooperation between legislative bodies as the two countries` parliament speakers met in Baku.

Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Azerbaijani Parliament, Ogtay Asadov hailed relations between the two countries, saying they were “bound together by deep historic ties”. “We have friendship groups at the parliaments, and our parliamentarians share common views in international organizations. And this is a vivid evidence of the development of relations.” Mr. Asadov stressed the importance of increasing the number of reciprocal visits by Azerbaijani and Albanian officials. He also noted the necessity of developing economic cooperation between the two countries. “I am confident that several projects, including TAP and TANAP energy projects will push the development of economic relations,” Mr. Asadov said.

He also highlighted the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and thanked the Albanian government for supporting Azerbaijan`s position.

Speaker of the Albanian Parliament Ilir Meta said his country pays special attention to relations with Azerbaijan. He underlined the existing potential for expanding economic relations between the two countries. Mr. Meta noted the importance of developing humanitarian cooperation.
