The penalties for attempt on life of the state or public authority (act of terrorism) are tightened in Azerbaijan and the term of the sentence will extended up to 20 years.
The Parliament told APA that Azerbaijani President proposed an amendment to the Article #277 of the Criminal Code.
According to the amendment, attempt on life of the state or public figure, and also representative of the foreign state, committed with a view of a discontinuance of his service or political activity or from revenge for such activity (act of terrorism) will be punished by imprisonment for the term from 14 up to 20 years.
The valid penalty for the crime is from 10 years up to 15 years.
The draft law was recommended to the Parliament’s plenary meeting and will be discussed on May 30.
