Deputy Prime Minister makes public reasons for failure in refusal of OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs by Azerbaijan

“Azerbaijan does not intend to depart from the format of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs”, said the Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Refugees and IDPs Ali Hasanov, APA reports.

Hasanov said there are a few reasons for it. “In fact, we see that the OSCE Minsk Group is an inactive agency and their activities have not yielded any results for 20 years. The OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs investigated the problem and they are aware of it. But what responsibilities do the co-chairs have’? Their responsibilities are to visit, determine the fact and report about it to the leaders of their countries, and they do it. They have already got involved in the problem. If a new different format will appear, we need to wait a few years for them coming and being acquainted with the problem. On the other hand, the Charter of the OSCE Minsk Group was developed so that it is impossible to change the co-chairs. So the change in the Charter is based on a consensus. Armenia never comes to consensus. Therefore, we consider that it is useless to change the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group. Instead, we should try to achieve the resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict through the present co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group”, he said.
