Azerbaijani FM meets President of Finland

Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov has met President Sauli Niinistö as part of his visit to Finland.

The President of Finland praised relations between the two countries, saying there was wide potential for developing cooperation in the fields of economy, energy, agriculture and investment.

Minister Mammadyarov stressed the importance of holding business forums and arranging reciprocal visits in terms of developing the cooperation between Azerbaijan and Finland.

On regional energy and transport projects initiated by Azerbaijan, Mammadyarov expressed hope Finland would join these projects.

He provided an insight into the current state of the negotiations to solve the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The minister stressed the urgency of withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from Azerbaijan`s occupied lands. “It is the major condition for solving the conflict, which poses threat to the regional development and stability.”

Mammadyarov briefed the Finnish President on Azerbaijan`s priorities during its chairmanship of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers, as well as the country`s cooperation with the EU.

President Sauli Niinistö expressed his desire to visit Azerbaijan.

They also exchanged views on regional and international issues.
