Azerbaijani FM meets with his Saudi Arabian counterpart

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has met with Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Saud al-Faisal during the Arab Cooperation and Economic Forum with Central Asia and the Republic of Azerbaijan today, on May 13.

During the meeting, the parties expressed satisfaction with the level of political relations between Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Trend.

Mammadyarov also expressed gratitude to the Saudi Arabian government for its permanent support to Azerbaijan’s fair position in the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Saud al-Faisal, for his part, stressed that Azerbaijan is the first country in the world to start the commercial production of oil, adding that the country’s modern development makes him glad.

Mammadyarov underscored that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to the relations with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, especially with Saudi Arabia.

The minister expressed confidence that the double taxation avoidance agreement will facilitate the development of trade and economic relations between the two countries.

The Azerbaijani foreign minister highly appreciated the activity of the Saudi Arabian government as the initiator and organizer of the forum, adding that Azerbaijan actively participates at the forum.

He stressed that the forum created favorable conditions for the political, economic and humanitarian cooperation between the League of Arab States, the Central Asian countries and Azerbaijan.

The minister believes that the transport infrastructure plays an important role in the economic relations.

Mammadyarov also talked about the opportunities of development of Azerbaijan’s transport infrastructure and Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway.

During the meeting, the parties emphasized the importance of mobilizing the efforts in combating the international terrorism and exchanged views on issues of mutual interest.
