The situation in the South Caucasus will remain stable in 2014 and peace will be saved, expert Vladimir Evseev said at the first meeting of the North-South political centre in Baku on March 4.
“I consider further intensification of relations between Azerbaijan and Russia as the fundamental issue,” Yevseyev added.
“Today it is important to create a new format of security in the region amongst Russia, Turkey and Iran,” the expert said.
“Russia can help create a new model of regional security by using a factor of its relations with the post-Soviet countries, as well as big regional players,” Yevseyev added.
As for Iran’s nuclear programme, the expert stressed that the U.S will not lift sanctions against Tehran so as not to lose impact on the strong regional player. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani is also unlikely to give up the nuclear potential.
The North-South political centre has been operating to develop research and information relations with the countries of the South Caucasus.
