Azerbaijan, Iran discuss development of bilateral relations

The rapid completion of the Qazvin – Rasht- Astara (Iran) – Astara (Azerbaijan) railway construction is essential not only for Iran and Azerbaijan, but also for the transportation of goods from the Gulf region to the Scandinavian countries on more favorable terms, according to the statement made during a meeting between Azerbaijani ambassador to Iran Javanshir Akhundov and Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Oceania Ebrahim Rahimpur, the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran told Trend on March 4.

During the meeting the parties emphasized an important role of this railway, which is a part of the North-South international transport corridor, in the future economic development of the region, the embassy reported.

The sides also discussed issues of further development of bilateral relations of the two countries in political, economic and cultural spheres.

Moreover, it was stressed that the high-level mutual visits will contribute to the development of relations between Azerbaijan and Iran.

It was announced during the meeting that Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Oceania expects to visit Azerbaijan in the near future.

The sides exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest at the meeting.
