“Existing realities should be taken into account while expressing views on both human rights and economic issues,” Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov said while commenting on Azerbaijan-related part of the annual Country Reports on Human Rights Practices released by the US Department of State, APA reports.
He said every issue should be approached within the time framework and the current situation should be assessed compared to the previous situation.
“So, the development should be evaluated,” he said.
Araz Azimov said every society had its own characteristic features, it should be taken into consideration.
“On other hand, the side or person that promotes or teaches something should be appropriate for this. Approaching this way, I would regard such reports as unnecessary. But I know that other states prepare such reports regarding the US and Western countries and they can be considered grounded. The sources preparing the reports should also be taken into consideration, I would not say that the sources can always be considered objective, you know it. The gaps from the government’s care regarding the situation on human rights up to the development in the real situation should be viewed, if there are gaps ways should be shown to eliminate them. Both government and non-governmental organizations are dealing with these issues. There are enough mechanisms for the government’s cooperation with NGOs,” he said.
Araz Azimov said the issues related to the report should not be exaggerated. “This system was created in the world before. I won’t say “for some reason”, because I know the reasons. But due to certain reasons, the US structures be it Congress, White House or the Department of State have become influential sources on the international level. It should be approached properly without exaggerating. Because the side that exaggerates it actually artificially encourages such an activity attaching importance to it,” he said.
