“Azerbaijani is taught at educational institutions in Iran’s territories densely populated by Azerbaijanis and this is reflected in our Constitution,” Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mohsen Pak Ayeen told journalists, APA reports.
According to Ambassador, President Hassan Rouhani’s policy covers the development of ethnic people’s culture.
“In future we will witness participation of ethnic peoples, including Azerbaijanis in the state-building process of Iran,” he said.
Iranian media has reported that Azerbaijani schools will be opened in the territories densely populated by Azerbaijanis. ISNA has reported that Iran’s Culture Minister Ali Jannati supported the initiative on education of ethnic people in their native languages. He underlined the importance of bringing the issue into conformity with article 15 of the Constitution of Iran. According to the article, Persian is the official language of Iran and along with the Persian language, the languages of other nations living in the country can be used in media and education.
