“The function of social support centers in various regions of Azerbaijan and provision of people with social assistance lead to a slight reduction of the existing problems,” said Zulfiyya Sadigova, the senior advisor of the Department on Work with regional centers of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs addressing a round table on children’s rights, APA reports.
According to her, 11 social support centers received 2222 appeals in 2013 and 1017 of them were related with children affairs. She said that 6900 people benefited from trainings and various services of the center: “16 facts of early marriage were revealed, 11 of them were prevented. 12139 letters were distributed among families within the “Letter to Family” campaign launched to prevent early marriages. 27 families were reconciled.”
The senior advisor noted that every region has its own complicated problems: “For instance, we can not speak about early marriages in Zagatala and Goygol regions, because the residents of these regions are very forward-looking and children’s education is more important for them than early marriages. But the situation is different in other regions.”
Sadigova also said that the committee is in favor of giving children to their families from boarding schools: “Due to the lack of such support centers in all regions, parents can not find specialists to deal with their children with disabilities. For this reason, these children are placed at boarding schools in cities. ”
