The ceasefire has been violated on the contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian troops in different positions 250 times a day, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said today.
Armenian armed forces opened fire at positions of the Azerbaijani armed forces located in the village of Alibeyli of Tovuz region from the positions located in the village of Aygepar of Armenia’s Berd region yesterday and last night. From the positions located in the village of Parakavar of Armenia’s Noyemberyan region, Armenian armed forces opened fire at positions of the Azerbaijani armed forces located in the village of Kohnegishlag of Agstafa region.
At the same time, Azerbaijani Armed Forces were fired from the positions located near villages of Goradiz Garakhanbeyli, Gorgan, Ashagi Seidahmedli, Ashagi Veysalli, Ashagi Abdurrahmanli of Fizuli region, Marzili, Yusifjanli, Bash Gervend, Shikhlar, Shuraabad, Sarijali, Javahirli of Agdam region, Chilaburt, Chayli, Gizil Oba, Goyarkh Tartar, Tapgaragoyunlu, Gulustan of Goranboy region, Kuropatkino of Khojavend region, Mehdili of Jabrail region and at the nameless heights.
The shooting was countered by return fire.
The situation on the contact line between Azerbaijani and Armenian troops has been escalating. Armenian armed forces have violated the ceasefire status over thousand times in the last few days.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council’s four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
