Caspian states to discuss development of fishing quotas in Baku

The 33rd meeting of the Commission on Aquatic Bioresources of the Caspian Sea will be held in Baku on April 24-25 under the chairmanship of Azerbaijan, the head of the press service of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Irada Ibragimova told Trend.
The meeting will be attended by the heads of ministries and committees of the fisheries of the Caspian countries.
In accordance with the agenda, the meeting will discuss the work carried out in 2011-2012 on protection and artificial increase in fish stocks, development of fishing quotas and present reports on the current state of fish stocks on the basis of the results of marine expeditions and research projects.
The meeting will also clarify the issue of banning all commercial fishing for sturgeon.
It should be noted that Kazakh President’s proposal to ban the commercial fishing for sturgeon was positively adopted by the heads of other countries at the Baku summit of heads of Caspian states on November 18, 2010. In this regard, the meeting will discuss the agreement ‘On protection of sturgeon stocks in the Caspian Sea’ proposed by the Russian Federation in order to implement the proposal.
In addition, the parties will discuss the agreement on ‘Protection of aquatic biological resources of the Caspian Sea and efficient use of reserves’ proposed by Turkmenistan.
According to the Charter of the Commission on Aquatic Bioresources of the Caspian Sea, the presidency will go to the Russian Federation in the next two years.
