“Roughly 70 percent of complaints to the Press Council of Azerbaijan came from the state and government employees. The Council’s Appeal Commission receives appeals mainly from health and education employees,” Press Council Chairman Aflatun Amashov told Trend News today.

A while ago the Press Council publicized a list of 80 newspapers involved in “racket” activities.

Amashov said that the majority of appeals are liked with the defamation. “We have strengthened struggle with such papers. As a result, 84 newspapers were included in the list of “racket” publications. I believe our struggle will yield its results soon,” Amashov added.

The state and government employees play considerable role in preventing the “racketing”. “Every state agency should be familiar with this list and then it will be difficult for “racket” newspapers to function,” Amashov underscored.

Nearly 400 newspapers and magazines are published and over 20 television channels operate. There are 50 electronic media outlets and 20 news agencies.
