The Iranian parliament creates special committee on Caspian issues

The Iranian Parliamentary Commission on foreign policy and national security has established a special committee entitled “Caspian Sea”, the Iranian FARS news agency reported. “The Parliamentary Commission on foreign policy and national security is closely observing the situation in relation to the process of determining the status of the Caspian Sea. To this end, the commission had established a special committee,” said the deputy chairman of the committee on foreign policy and national security of the Iranian parliament, Hussein Subhaniniya.

The Commission will conduct a research and the situation in relation to these issues will be closely watched, said Subhaniniya. The meeting held on October 8 in the Iranian city of Rasht discussed energy, environmental and other problems of the Caspian Sea, said the deputy chairman of the commission.

“The meeting also focused on general discussions on the status of the Caspian Sea. Positions on this issue are outlined in the statements of the representatives of relevant organizations, including the ministries of foreign affairs, environment, oil and transport,” said Subhaniniya.

The Iranian city of Rasht in Gilan province hosted a meeting entitled “Caspian Sea” on October 8. The meeting was attended by Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, members of the Iranian parliamentary committee on foreign policy and national security, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, officials of the ministries of oil, transport, environment, customs and port management and shipping agencies.
