By the end of the year, Azerbaijani Press Council will appeal to the Ministry of Justice with regards to cancellation of registration of non-functioning media outlets. “Currently, the number of continuously operating newspapers that have state registration is close to 500 in the country,” chairman of the Press Council Aflatun Amashov told Trend News.
More than 3,300 media outlets have been registered in Azerbaijan. Currently, only 600 of them operate. About 400 newspapers and magazines are published, more than 20 TV channels. There are about 50 electronic media – about 20 news agencies, the rest – the Internet-resources in Azerbaijan.
30 out of the continuously operating newspapers, are published daily, said Amashov. “More than 50 newspapers are published weekly. The other newspapers are printed at a certain time, and approximately 100 newspapers have long ago stopped their activity,” said chairman of the Council.
Chairman of the Council noted that currently the registered newspapers are attentively studied. “First of all we must identify the activity of these media outlets over the past two years. In this regard, I believe that we can complete the process by the end of the year,” said Amashov.
