Azerbaijan Council of Press prepares new list of “racketeer” newspapers

Azerbaijan Council of Press again has received complaints up to 20 concerning newspapers involved in “racketeering”. “Every day we receive several complaints from Baku and other parts of Azerbaijan about the newspapers dealing with racketeer.” – The managing secretary of the Council of Press Rahim Huseynzada said to the Trend news on Thursday.

The reference of the Trend news: The Council of Press has recently announced the names of over 80 newspapers involved in “racketeering” and has addressed to law-enforcements to investigate the materials of some of them.

According to what Husenzada said, the complaints received by the Council were sent both from the capital and from various regions.”The appeals are given to the commission of the Council against “racketeering” and here as a result of the investigations carried out, it is specified a newspaper to be “racketeer” or not.” The managing secretary commented.

According to his thought, the majority of complaints received from Baku are by children’s hospitals.”And there are some complaints about directors or employees of newspapers who swindle people and promise to provide them with jobs” the Council official stressed.

Over 3300 mass media vehicles have been registered in Azerbaijan and at present, approximately 600 of them function. Approximately 600 newspapers and magazines are published.
